Explore creative transitions and cleansing breaths in strong shapes!

Service Description I offer the use of blocks in this class, so have one nearby if you'd like to incorporate it. Class begins with cleansing breaths, and shaking off what has been clinging in the body, mind, or on the breath. We move creatively into Prapadasana (toe balance) as we feel into the core, legs, and breath, and then into Navasana (boat), exploring different ways to hold this shape. Once we rise to standing (try this without the use of hands and arms!), we focus on a quote from Thích Nhất Hạnh; "Life is available only in the present moment," as we call in presence and move between Utkatasana (chair) and Virabhadrasana II (warrior II). We then move into Ardha Chandrasana (balancing half moon) and a standing hip stretch, before coming down onto the earth and closing class with a short passage from the yoga sutras, sutra 1.2, "yogas chitta vritti nirodha", which is often translated as "the stilling of the fluctuations of the mind. By calming this mental chatter, we can begin to yoke; cultivating the natural union within ourselves so that we find peace and bliss" (
